Obituary of Rebecca Dodd McClure

Rebecca Dodd McClure (Becky) Mrs. McClure, 87, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on April 9, 2013, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Becky was born June 16, 1925, in Shelby, NC, to the late Waudell B. and Alice Vess Dodd. Becky graduated from Boiling Springs High School, Brevard College, and High Point University with a degree in Home Economics and General Science. She started the weekday kindergarten program at St. John's Methodist Church in Charlotte in 1963. She also taught school in the Cleveland County and Mecklenburg County school systems, retiring in 1973. Becky was very active in the 4H Club in her younger years. Moving to Charlotte, she joined the Charlotte Jaycettes and served as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. Becky always loved being with people and her life was an example of her strong faith. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was the dearest thing to her heart until her last breath. Mrs. McClure was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and has lived at Aldersgate Retirement Community since June of last year. Becky is survived by her husband, John Robert "Bob" McClure; three daughters, Wanda Granger and her husband, Richard, of Florence, SC, Debbie Heise and her husband, Joe, of Matthews, NC, and Robyn Hoppe and her husband, Allan, of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Breck Granger, Brandon Granger and his wife, Jessica, Kara Heise, Bryan Heise, Allyson Hoppe, and Jonathon Hoppe; four great-grandchildren, Parson, Lilah, Sawyer, and Easton Granger; brother, Rev. Robert Dodd and his wife, Ann, of Charlotte, NC and nephews, Justin and Aaron Dodd. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Friday at Hankins & Whittington prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
