Obituary of James David Hay D.D.S.

James David Hay, D.D.S. Dr. Hay, 72, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the Levine & Dickson Southminster Hospice House. He was born November 16, 1940, the only child of James David and Gabrielle Hay in Saint Petersburg, Florida. He fought bravely with dignity and strength during his brief illness. David, as his friends knew him, graduated from Bishop Barry High School in St Petersburg. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy where he served from 1958 until 1961. He attended undergraduate school at University of New Orleans and then Emory University School of Dentistry graduating in 1967. He opened his office in Dunwoody, Georgia where he maintained a successful dental practice for 30 years. Dr. Hay was an artist in his field who not only provided great care for his patients but treated them as family. Upon retiring in 1996 he spent many years sailing extensively with his family and close friends. David leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Diane Hay of Charlotte, NC; sons, James David Hay, III and wife, Sara of Stone Mountain, GA, Christopher Hay of Denver, CO and Brennan Hay and wife, Hollie of Charlotte, NC; his three grandchildren and a cousin, Shirley Hay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Friday, May 3, 2013, at The Cathedral Church of St. Patrick, 1621 Dilworth Road East Charlotte, NC 28203. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park, 5400 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. The family will receive friends with a wake service at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service Thursday evening May 2, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
