Obituary of Norma Steed Hester

Norma Steed Hester, 89, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024. Born Monday, March 12, 1934 in Asheboro, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Harris Charles Steed and Nola McCaskill Steed. She attended East Carolina University and worked as a legal assistant at a law firm in Asheboro, NC. She married her high school sweetheart on July 5, 1959 and became a dedicated homemaker raising their two sons.

Norma is predeceased by her loving husband Roy McDowell Hester of 61 years, sister Myra Steed Bishop and brother Mack Charles Steed. Norma is survived by sons, Stanley Teed Hester and Scott McDowell Hester and his wife, Cathy McMillan Hester, all of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Matthew Charles (Hester) Novo and his wife, Elizabeth Knight Novo, of Athens, GA and many more loving family and friends.

Norma was an active member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and immensely active with Troop 33 Cub Scouts with her two sons.

Norma enjoyed adventures with family and friends like driving cross country, spending time at the beach and exploring new places. She especially loved traveling with her husband, sister and brother in-law to various places like Alaska, Maine and Yosemite National Park.

A private Inurnment Ceremony will be held at Sardis Presbyterian Church for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sardis Presbyterian Church.
