Obituary of Ronald Coy Kidwell

Mr. Ronald Coy Kidwell, age 87, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Atrium Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Ron was born in Pittsburg, GA on December 29, 1935 to Buster and Ruby Kidwell. He was blessed with an identical twin brother, Donald and four other brothers. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. Ron graduated from Southern Technical Institute in Chamblee, GA, Athens College in Athens, AL and attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He worked with the Aerospace Industry in the development of NASA Apollo and Skylab program in Huntsville, AL. After the space program declined, Ron joined IBM in Lexington, KY and was transferred to Charlotte in 1982. He retired from IBM as a Systems Engineer in 1993. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping and working out at the gym.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Donald Kidwell, brothers Robert Kidwell, Jerry Kidwell and Philip Farmer. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Carol) Miller Kidwell. They celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary in January, 2023. Mr. Kidwell is also survived by sons, Gregory A. Kidwell (wife, Ginger) of Charleston, SC, Jeffrey S. Kidwell (wife, Susannah) of Atlanta, GA and David S. Kidwell (wife, Lindsey) of Stroudsburg, PA, granddaughter Blythe Olivia Kidwell of Athens, GA, grandson Coy Thomas Kidwell of Stroudsburg, PA, brother Ralph Kidwell (wife, Renee) of Port Charlotte, FL along with many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 19 with family only at 3:00 and open visitation from 4-6 pm at 2222 Selwyn Avenue Charlotte, NC in the Queen’s Oaks Condominium Room.
