Obituary of Marguerite J. Muse

Marguerite Johnson Muse

January 26,1926 - June 30, 2023

Mrs. Muse age 97, native of Charlotte died peacefully in her sleep. Her parents were Otis Millard Johnson and Marguerite Coit Brandenburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rogers Muse, of 47 years. Also her sister, Nell Collins and brother-in-law, Thomas Collins. She is survived by her daughter, Sharyn Muse Griffin and her son, Lance Rogers Muse and wife, Renee. Grandchildren are Tyler Griffin (Val), Erica Muse Pasvankas (Will), Kelly Musante (Rob), and Laura Muse McGuire (Tom); greatgrandchildren Brynlee, Jackson, Ellis, Xander, Penelope, Ada, Kiki Marguerite, and Lucas; one nephew, Thomas E. Collins; one stepsister, Louise Jeffers; great niece Jennifer Andres (Adam); nieces Lauren and Madison. Also survived by Trudy Lefler Muse and numerous nieces and nephews.

She attended Charlotte City Schools graduating from Central High in 1944. She was active in planning reunions for her graduating class. She graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1948 where she was an ADPi sorority member and a cheerleader. She was a very devout Christian and a longtime member of Sharon Presbyterian Church and remained very active in the church until her final days. She was employed as a secretary for a number of years; retiring from JP Stevens in 1983.

Marguerite loved playing tennis with friends and was a member of the Park Road Rackettes for numerous years and continued playing well into her eighties. Other passions were gardening, traveling, entertaining and most of all spending time with her family and numerous friends.

She always maintained her “love of life” up until passing, never letting any physical failings due to age dampen her enthusiasm. Being a lifelong beach lover, she was looking forward to another beach vacation at Pawleys Island this August.

We wish to thank the entire staff at Southminster Retirement Community for all the loving care that she received there.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, July 7th at 3 pm at Southminster Retirement Community in the Embrace Health Living Room, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Services, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
