Obituary of Marshall William Seidler

Marshall William Seidler of Charlotte, NC since 2014 (formerly of West Palm Beach, FL, Monticello, NY, and Brookline, MA) died peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 after a long illness at age 92.  Marshall was born on February 26, 1926 in Boston, MA.  He was the son of the late Henry and Rebecca Seidler.  He grew up in Brookline, MA. 

Marshall enlisted in the army in 1943 at the age of 17 and proudly served active duty in World War II as a combat infantryman from 1944-1945 during the Rhineland Campaign. He was in the 70^th infantry, known as the Trailblazers.  His 274^th regiment saw some of the bitterest battles of the war. He was wounded by gunshot in 1945 at the age of 18. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. In 2017 Marshall appeared in the documentary, “Jewish American Soldiers: Stories from World War II.”

After his discharge in 1945, he attended Northeastern University and graduated with a degree in Accounting. 

In 1955, after his father’s passing, he moved with his mother to Monticello, NY where his beloved sister, Lucille (currently of Syracuse) and her family lived.

He met Millie, the love of his life, and they were married on January 4, 1959.  Together, they raised two sons, Howard Seidler of Charlotte, NC and Craig Seidler (of blessed memory).

Marshall had a 44-year career as an independent Mac Tools distributer.  His customers were his friends.  Customers liked doing business with him because he was always loyal, fair, and honest. 

Marshall retired from his business in 2000. He and Millie moved to West Palm Beach, FL, where they lived an active life for many years and enjoyed spending time with their friends and family.

Marshall’s favorite pastime was bowling. There are many rules in bowling, but according to Marshall, the most important rule was you never cancel bowling even if there is a blizzard or if you have the flu. 

He also enjoyed playing tennis and Bridge. He was an avid reader whose morning ritual included reading the daily newspaper from cover-to-cover.  He loved talking politics and had a great sense of humor.

Marshall is survived by wife, Mildred Seidler, his son, Howard Seidler (Andrea), grandsons Caleb Seidler and Austin Seidler, all from Charlotte, NC, his sister, Lucille Weiler of Syracuse, NY, and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Craig Seidler.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 2^nd at 9:00 AM at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC. The family will observe Shiva on Thursday, May 3rd at 7:00 PM at Temple Beth El 5101 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC.
