Obituary of Donald P. Silverberg
Donald Silverberg, age 83, died on April 7, 2018. Donald (“Don”, “Donny”) is survived by his daughter, son, daughter-in-law and grand-daughter. Don was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Charlene (“Charl”). Don is also survived by his sister-in-law Libby (Charlene’s twin sister). brother-in-law Albert (“big Al”) and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don served his country in the armed forces prior to meeting Charlene in Brooklyn, NYC at a USO dance. They married in August 1957. They lived in Brooklyn for a time before moving to Queens. In Queens, the family lived in a duplex house with Libby & Al’s family. In the early 1970’s, the Silverberg’s moved to Connecticut and Libby & Al moved to Charlotte. Don & Charl retired in Charlotte in 2003. Many happy times were spent ushering at the Blumenthal and Ovens, playing Pickleball at the J, attending movies with the movie club, and trips to Myrtle Beach.
Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, in-law and uncle. He was an electrical engineer that worked for a NASA contractor in the 1960’s. He also owned a bicycle shop for a time. Before retiring, he worked for a technology company where they called him “the Wizard”. If it was broken, if it did not work, Don could fix it. He was extremely handy.
The family would like to thank Community Home Care & Hospice and Homewatch Caregivers for the compassionate care he received in his final days.
