Obituary of Arlen Reid Earney

Arlen was born in Charlotte, NC on February 17, 1936 and passed away March 7, 2018. He was the beloved son of the late Hazel Reid Earney and Pauline Whitley Earney. Arlen went to Oakhurst Elementary School and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1955. He went on to N.C. State College where he studied architecture and to Kings Business College to study general business. Arlen joined the NC Air National Guard while at East Mecklenburg, Air Force ROTC while in college and served 3 years in the Air Force. He saw the Love of his Life, Carolyn, at her church in January 1957 and they were married on July 21, 1957. The couple had 5 children; Arlen Jr., Belinda, Curtis, Darlene, and Elisa. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren; Jacob, Caleb, Katharine, Christopher, Margaret, and Salma. Arlen is also survived by his sister Janet Routh and her husband David, and Meryam Earney. Arlen worked with Squires Construction Co., Inc. and Squires Realty, Inc. for 57 years. He designed and built commercial buildings from Atlanta, GA to Richmond, VA and from Charleston, SC to Charleston, WV. Arlen and Carolyn were blessed more than they could have ever believed. They enjoyed doing many things together, including traveling to many part of the world. Faith and Love in the Lord, being active in their church, their home Bible studies and daily Prayers kept them together. They have seen many answers to their prayers. Praise God! He lives today. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his cherished daughter Darlene Earney in 2000 and his son Curtis W. Earney in 2010 as well as his 2 brothers Bobby and Charles Earney. Arlen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn, his son Arlen, Jr. his daughters; Belinda (Eric) Dudley and Elisa Earney, 6 grandchildren; Jacob, Caleb, Katharine, Christopher, Margaret, and Salma. Arlen is also survived by his sister Janet Routh and her husband David. A service to celebrate Arlen's life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday March 10, 2018 at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd Charlotte, NC 28203, with visitation from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at the funeral home. Interment will be Private.
