Obituary of Milton Ecker

Milton Ecker, age 89, of Charlotte, NC formerly of Southbury, Connecticut and Westbury, Long Island, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Pavilion at Brightmore, in Charlotte, NC. He was best known to those who loved him as Mickey. He was born in Hungary in 1928 and immigrated to United States through Ellis Island, NY in 1934 with his mother and brother, joining his father who was already in the United States. He graduated from high school in the Bronx, NY. He worked in his family's manufacturing business in Manhattan, NY before and after his service in the US Army. He entered the United States Army in October of 1950 and served active duty in Korea and Army reserve stateside until 1956. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. While living in NY he and his family were members of Temple Emanuel in East Meadow, NY. He was an avid history buff specializing in World War II and Korean Conflict history. He also enjoyed aviation and was active in the local Civil Air Patrol in Long Island, NY. Milton volunteered as a docent in the Cradle of Aviation Museum, Garden City, NY. He also enjoyed taking flying lessons. His work career started in retail sales and then moved into the field of Life and homeowners and Automotive Insurance working for many years for Prudential Insurance in NY. He will be remembered best for his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. He was always ready with a corny joke, but the goal was always to make people laugh and feel good. Mickey married the love of his life Marlene Wagner Ecker in November of 1955. They were married for almost 60 years. Mickey is survived by his two sons Douglas R. Ecker and his wife Mary of Monroe, NC and Robert M. Ecker and his wife Christine of Charlotte, NC; and four grandchildren; Daniel G. Ecker, Sara L. Ecker, Roswell A. Ecker and Thomas A. Ecker. In addition to his late parents Martin Ecker and Elizabeth Elefant Ecker -Berger, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Marlene June Wagner Ecker in 2015 and his older brother Steven Ecker. Service and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. A Shiva minyan will be held at Temple Beth El Synagogue in Charlotte, NC with time and date to be announced.
