Obituary of Kevin Goodrum

Kevin Josiah Goodrum, 30, of Charlotte, succumbed to cancer after an aggressive four month battle, passing quietly in his sleep on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County. He was the only son to Tabra Goodrum. Mr. Goodrum came to the Carolinas from the Cincinnati, Ohio to pursue social work with families of the socio-developmentally challenged. In Charlotte, just as in Ohio, he served his church faithfully and cultivated a strong base of devoted friendships across a wide diversity of communities. After years of service in the field of social work, Kevin went on to serve at a non-profit organization called 24-7, in the role of Director of The Justice Project. This involved coordinating & equipping a large volunteer base & working in inner-city neighborhoods among the marginalized and poor in an effort to improve their quality of life socio-economically, emotionally and spiritually. He is survived by his mother, Tabra Goodrum, of Charlotte. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2013, at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203. Following the service, friends are invited to 24-7, 512 East 15th Street, Charlotte, NC 28206.
