Obituary of Don McGary

Don Eugene McGary Mr. McGary, 88, of Charlotte, died June 20, 2009 at Aldersgate Retirement Community. He was born in Chicago, IL on July 30, 1920, son of the late Vernon McGary and Martha Rambert. Mr. McGary married Charlotte Waggoner on August 3, 1946. They resided in Chicago until their move to Aldersgate Retirement Community in 2005. He was employed as a Construction Engineer with he Chicago Park District. Mr. McGary was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 63 years. As a World War II Navy veteran he served aboard the U.S.S. Abatan. He was an active member of Bethany Union Church and Men of Leisure. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Charlotte; his brother, QV McGary of Chicago; and a sister, June McGary Heider, also of Chicago. He is survived by his daughters, Gail Ann Murchison and her husband, John, of Charlotte, and Susan McGary-Fynmore and her husband John, of Phoenix; grandchildren, Jennifer, Amy and Sarah Fynmore; nieces and nephews, Pam and Michael Childs of Charlotte, Christine and Ronald Hudnell of Winston-Salem, Kathleen and Clint Petty of Reston, Virginia; Carl and Brenda Erickson, Mark and Cathy Erickson, Gary and Mary Erickson and Kim and Patrick McArthur of the Chicago area. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 in the Chapel of the Ray Hall Community Center at Aldersgate Retirement Community 3800 Shamrock Dr. Charlotte, NC 28215.
