Obituary of Juanita DeArmond

Juanita ?Nita? Victoria Norman DeArmond Mrs. DeArmond, 87, of Charlotte passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center. She was born on September 7, 1921, the daughter of the late Jesse H. Norman and Lillie Hope Norman Railey. She was in the Honor Society at Harding High School and employed by Employers Mutual Companies for 22 years, retiring in 1986. From 1977-1979 she served as president of the claims association, vice president, secretary and in 1978 was adjuster of the year. Among her many creative talents she designed and presented the association the club banner in 1977. She won 1st prize for the 75th anniversary celebration creating a 1911 Victorian costume complete with a bustle and parasol. Nita was a world traveler during the army military career of her husband residing in Germany, Korea and military bases worldwide. The reaffirmation of their wedding vows on May 16, 1981, at St. Mary?s Chapel, Charlotte was a celebration of their love. Mrs. DeArmond enjoyed many hobbies; oil painting, gardening, sewing, cake making, and was a poet. She was a very active member of Avondale Presbyterian Church for 28 years, where she served as an Elder, circle member, silver bells member and Sunday school class. Her life was greatly enriched by the love of her church, her friends and Reverend Dr. John Earl, ministering to her and family during her brief illness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Joe Shannon DeArmond and son Larry Joe DeArmond; brother, Robert Henry Norman; sisters, Sarah Louise Norman Michelson and Catherine Hope Norman Newton. Survivors include her daughters; Sandra Milton and husband Buddy of Roswell, GA and Myra Loftin and husband Harry of Weddington, NC; son, Frank Maxton DeArmond and wife JoAnn of California; sister Harriet Elizabeth Norman McIntyre and husband Robert, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 26, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Avondale Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. John Earl officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 25, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service.
