Obituary of Ruth Austin

Ruth Lois Austin Mrs. Austin, 97, of Charlotte, died June 23, 2009 at Huntersville Oaks. She was born on September 14, 1911, in Cherryville, NC, daughter of the late Noah and Eunice Houser. Mrs. Austin was one of fifteen children raised on a farm near Bessemer City, NC. She graduated from Tryon High School and in 1931 married the late Ralph Austin, Sr. Mrs. Austin retired from Sears, after thirty one years of service. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death eleven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Austin is survived by her son, Lenny Austin and his wife, Rhonda; her daughter, Mary Lee Brooks and her husband, Olin; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 25, 2009, in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203 with Reverend Ben Devoid of Dilworth United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior o the service. Memorials may be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale St. Memphis, TN 28100.
