Obituary of Kelly Braxton

Kelly Deaton Braxton Kelly Braxton, 48, of Charlotte, died peacefully at her residence on August 14, 2009, after a twenty month battle with brain cancer. Kelly was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. She was born August 31, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of Parks and Mary Ann Deaton. Kelly was raised in Worthington, Ohio where she graduated from Worthington High School and then attended Wake Forest University, where she graduated in 1982 with a degree in Accounting. After college, Kelly came to Charlotte to work at Peat, Marwick and Mitchell, where she retired in 1995 so she could be home with her children. On September 17, 1988 she married Kenneth Gyles Braxton. Kelly?s priority in life was her family. Kelly was very active in her church and her children?s schools. She loved her family vacations to Disney World, the beach and to her parent?s house. In addition to her parents and husband, Kelly is survived by her children, Michael Gyles, Tyler Ward and Lindsey Nicole Braxton; sisters, Kim Cagle and her husband, Bobby, of Charlotte and Kirstin Adams and her husband, Tim, of Raleigh; mother-in-law, Ann B. Braxton of Greensboro, brothers-in-law, Paul E. Braxton of Greensboro and Philip E. Braxton and his wife, Sheri, of Greensboro; nieces and nephews, Brendan and Cameron Cagle of Charlotte, Riley and Parks Adams of Raleigh, Andrew and Ashley Braxton of Greensboro, Catherine and Kirsten Braxton of Greensboro. Kelly was preceded in death by her grandparents, Duane E. and Fannie Ward and father-in-law, Paul G. Braxton. The family would like to thank their friends and family and Kelly?s extended Caring Bridge family for all of their support and prayers. The prayers from these individuals provided numerous blessings throughout Kelly?s battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Rd. Charlotte, NC 28211 with Reverend Ken Carter, Reverend Bill Jeffries, and Reverend Teresa Dunn, officiating. Interment is private. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203 and following the service Thursday in the atrium of the church.
