Obituary of Francis Martin Tivnan

Francis Martin Tivnan Jr, age 78, died at his home on February 23, 2018 in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Fran was born in Syracuse, NY on October 1, 1939, the son of Francis Martin Tivnan Sr. and Mary Catherine O'Connor. After graduating from Baldwinsville High School, he served in the US Marine Corp at Parris Island. Upon leaving the military, Fran began his career where while working, for Egan Realty, he met his wife Joy. They married in 1965 and after several moves with Ryan Homes, they settled in Charlotte where he lived for over 40 years. He opened his own business, KT Homes, in 1989 where he proudly built many homes across the Charlotte area. In addition to his parents, Fran was preceded in death by his wife, Joy VanNorstrand Tivnan; his brothers, William, Timothy, and Tom Tivnan; and his sister, Debbie Tivnan Walters. Survivors include his daughters, Catherine Tivnan Gantt and Amy Tivnan Alexander; his son, Martin Patrick Tivnan; his brother, Mark Joseph Tivnan; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and 7 grandchildren; Charles, Caitlin, Caleigh , Patrick, Caroline, Ashley, & Sean. Fran loved a good political debate and reading on his balcony. His children are grateful for the time they got to spend with him in his later years. A mass for Francis will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at The Cathedral of St. Patrick 1621 Dilworth Road East, Charlotte, NC 28203. Interment will be private.
