Obituary of William Boyd Shackelford

William " Boyd" Shackelford, was born on May 17, 1933 in Charlotte, NC. He was the son of the late George L. Shackelford and Callie Mae Garren Shackelford . Boyd attended Thomasboro High School and Central Piedmont Community College. Boyd was a veteran of the Korean War in the U.S. Navy and a member of American Legion Post # 353. He retired from IBM Charlotte in 1994 and Fluor Daniel Corp in 1998. Boyd is survived by sons Mark Shackelford , Steve Shackelford and daughter Vicki Shackelford and five grandchildren: Christian, Rachel, Ryan,Logan and Matt. In addition to his late parents, Boyd is preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Jean Wingate Shackelford, and several brothers and sister. A visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203. Interment will be private. Boyd will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his avid love of golf and coaching his sons in baseball.
