When Barry first visited Joanne's family about sixty years ago now, we could hardly understand a word he said because of his southern accent. We got used to it and appreciated what he had to say. We had the nerve to play a practical joke on him at that first visit, but he took it with good humor and married Joanne In spite of us.
When I was working as a nurse at Boston children's hospital, I met a young doctor who had recently come up from University of Virginia medical center. I asked him if he knew Barry, and he did. He then proceeded to tell me. about how one night when he was working with Barry in the ED, Barry had Is kept his cool and saved the life of a child having an acute asthma attack. It obviously had made a big impression on the doctor.
