Obituary of Leon Mason Hartline

Leon Mason Hartline, 83 of Charlotte, NC passed away on March 9, 2023 of natural causes. Born March 30th 1939 in Statesville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Nathan Clyde Hartline and Katherine Germaine Hartline.

Leon grew up in Statesville, North Carolina and attended Statesville High School. He was very active in sports including track, football and wrestling and lettered in each. He was a class leader and was still in touch with many of his friends from high school. He also met his future wife while in high school. He was a star athlete and she was a cheerleader. He was also active in Boy Scouts and achieved the Life Rank as well as All State with the Methodist Church. He married his high school sweetheart on September 5, 1959. After high school he attended North Carolina State College as it was known at the time and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science. He was also in the Army Reserves for six years where he received an honorable discharge in 1967. He was always very proud to have served his country. After college Leon went to work for Sheaffer Eaton Textron. He was in outside sales for 27 years before the company was sold. He then went to work for one of his clients SP Richards in Greensboro, NC where he retired from. Leon lost his wife to breast cancer when they were just 36 and one of his proudest achievements was raising their three girls Kelli, Ann and Katie. In his later years he enjoyed traveling and went to China, all over Europe, Hawaii and loved to tell about the time he took a cruise through the Panama Canal and got the worst sunburn of his life! Leon was a member of Huntersville United Methodist Church in Huntersville, NC.
