Obituary of George Brent Callahan

George Brent Callahan, 78, of Waxhaw, NC, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Born Monday, May 22, 1944 in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Fred Filmore Callahan, Jr. and Vera Virginia Taylor Callahan. George graduated from South Mecklenburg High School and went on to join the United States Air Force. Once his term was completed, he graduated with a bachelor's degree from UNC Charlotte. George had many hobbies that included rooting for the Carolina Panthers, watching golf, enjoying classic movies, working on his lawn, and researching his genealogy. Most of all, George found joy with his family and spending time at Ocean Isle Beach.

 

George is survived by his loving daughters: Denise Merritt and Sarah Elizabeth Mullis and her husband, Jared; grandchildren: Noah and Meagan Merritt and Jackson and Emma Mullis; three great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Kracke and her husband, Arthur; and many more loving family and friends.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, Kathy Callahan, George was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Grace Mullis.

 

A celebration of George's life will be held at 11AM Saturday, December 10, 2022, in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard Charlotte, NC 28203.
