Obituary of Avis Dagenhart Sessoms

Avis Dagenhart Sessoms, 91, of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, passed away September 15, 2022. Born March 21, 1931, in Catawba, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Frank Dagenhart and Maggie Moss Dagenhart. Avis graduated with an associate's degree in business and retired as a purchasing manager after 33 years at the age of 58. She was lovingly known as a Tarheel fan and was a loyal member of the Woman's Auxiliary American Legion Post 262 and Hopewell United Methodist Church. Avis "Memaw" enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Avis is survived by her daughter: Vicky Harmon and her husband, Chris; step children: Billy Sessoms, Marykate Thompson and Harriett Davis; sister, Carolyn Deal; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many more loving family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ed Sessoms; son, Ricky Sessoms; and siblings: George Dagenhart, Elizabeth "Lib" Hicks, Nadine Holbrook, and Darlene King. The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. with a service to be held 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service.
