Obituary of Sadye Anne Broadway

Sadye Anne Broadway, 85, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Born June 20, 1937 in Oxford, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ervin Wilbur Boyd and Esther Evelyn Mangum Boyd.

Sadye Anne was a gifted violinist, playing for the Charlotte Repertory and Duke Symphony Orchestras. Her love of children and classical music led her to a career as a strings teacher with Wake County schools and later with Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. She was a beloved pre-school teacher at Myers Park Baptist and loved keeping the nursery at Myers Park United Methodist Church, her place of worship for 47 years.

Sadye Anne enjoyed antiques, spending time outside gardening, and her morning coffee clubs. Her greatest joys were her four children and nine grandchildren. She loved hosting late night sleepovers on the library floor and making every Christmas Eve magical. She always saw the beauty in the little things in life; a perfectly ripe peach, a delicious breeze or dropping a quick-witted response to light up a room.

Sadye Anne is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Olin Harvin Broadway, Jr.; four children: Olin Harvin Broadway, III and his wife, Michelle, Anne Broadway Welsh and her husband Jerry, Eric Benjamin Broadway, Katherine Broadway Ficca and her husband, Matthew, and nine adoring grandchildren: Olin H. Broadway, IV, Nicholas Joseph Broadway, Lindsey Rose Broadway, Caroline Anne Ficca, Elly Marie Ficca, Landon Elizabeth Welsh Wollesen and her husband, Matthew, Haydon Thomas Welsh, Brennon Broadway Welsh, and Cameron Joseph Welsh; sister, Ervene Evelyn Boyd; and many more loving family and friends.

The Broadways send our sincere thanks to the amazing staff of caregivers at Aldersgate's Cuthbertson Memory Care.  The staff surrounded Sadye Anne with love, hugs, songs, a friend on sleepless nights, and the soft touch of a warm hand.  We are so grateful to you all for loving our mother and caring for her during her time at Aldersgate.  You will never know how important you are to our family.

A celebration of Sadye Anne's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2022, at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road Charlotte, NC 28207. The family will hold a private graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery.
