Obituary of Jane Drake Hurst (nee Mott)

Mrs. Hurst, 94, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina died peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Formerly of Bear Creek, Pennsylvania; Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Lake Forest, Illinois.

Mrs. Hurst was born May 11, 1928, to Mary Robbins Mott and Edson Lockwood Mott in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse (RN). She spent a year at Letterman Army Hospital as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Mrs. Hurst is survived by her daughter, Patricia Halliday Hurst of Prosper, Texas; son, Charles Hamilton Hurst of Negaunee, Michigan, and his wife Leslie Diane (nee Larson) of Negaunee, MI; daughter-in-law Carol Jean Hurst (nee Galdoni) of Lake Forest, Illinois; and grandchildren Stephen Hamilton Hurst of Chicago, Illinois; Katherine Halliday Hurst of Chicago, Illinois; and Eric David Hurst of Negaunee, Michigan.

She is preceded in death by her father, Edson Lockwood Mott; her mother, Mary Melvin Mott (nee Robbins); her brother, Edson Lockwood Mott, Jr.; her husband Eugene Hamilton Hurst, Jr.; and her eldest son, Stephen Drake Hurst.

Mrs. Hurst was involved in her community, and made many friends through volunteerism, bridge, tennis, and being an interested and engaged neighbor. She was most proud of her family and their accomplishments.
