Charlotte Fielder

Obituary of Charlotte Amelia Fielder

Charlotte A Fielder passed into the loving arms of Jesus at her home on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the age of 92. Chici, as she was affectionately called, was truly all loving, all knowing, and quite a character. She was born in Pleasantville, NY and attended Pleasantville High School where she met and then married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Paul Fielder. Life partners, they spent the next 72 years side by side in all they did and all they were. Charlotte was, quite recently, preceded in death by her loving husband Paul Fielder and her beautiful daughter, Kathleen Cleaton and her husband, Russ Cleaton. She is survived by four of her five children: Paul Fielder (Jennifer), Thompson Falls, MT, Daniel Fielder (Dale), Sharpsburg, GA, Michele Pocha (Don), Helena, and Suzanne Johnson (Kevin), Laurens, NY. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Jennifer, Josh, Jamie, Jessie, Adam, René, Paul, Daniel, Devan, Luke, their spouses, and 11 beloved great grandchildren. From the time Charlotte was a child, she was devoted to her family. While she and her three cherished brothers stayed close to home for the better part of their lives, she raised her children to appreciate those roots while encouraging the wings to fly: a great and selfless gift. Charlotte often said the years of raising her little children were the very best years of her life and they each have the stories to back her up. Though she went on to a career she was proud of at Reader’s Digest, her real passion was being a homemaker, mother, and wife. Charlotte and her husband, Paul, were dedicated parishioners of the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Hawthorne, NY. For many years, she was in the Ladies Auxiliary for the Thornwood Fire Department, ran her children’s Parent Teacher Organization, and had great fun square dancing with the Mount Pleasant Squares. Chici was an active community member with many strong friendships. She took her family camping, hiking, on beach vacations, and on road trips where they developed their interests and appreciation for the great outdoors. After retirement, Paul and Chici moved to Charlotte, NC for a few years where they were able to spend time with their growing grandchildren. They, then, relocated to Leesburg, FL and lived at the Plantation where they really shined in their Golden Years. Here, Charlotte was very active in the theater. She was the lead in numerous productions, was awarded Best Lead Actress several times, and was honored with the Plantation Theatrical Group Lifetime Achievement Award at eighty years of age. They developed great friendships and loved when their children and grandchildren would visit. Health issues later made it necessary to come back to Charlotte, NC, where she and Paul lived out the remainder of their years in the home of their daughter, Kathleen. Charlotte was a dreamer. She saw the beauty in every little thing, and she tried to share that with others. Always wise, and in that wisdom, she understood that to be giving, to be loving, to be present; you had to take the time. She always made that time. She made the time for those she loved and those she barely knew. You could say, she never met a stranger. All in all, the most important thing to Charlotte was her ever-growing family. She loved her children and their children and their children’s children. But most of all, she loved her Paul. This powerful love and devotion have been her greatest gift and the example it has set is her unending legacy.
