Obituary of Clyde Samuel Tillman

Clyde Samuel “Sammy” Tillman, 81, of Cramerton, NC, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 19, 2022. He is now reunited with all of his loved ones, especially his beloved Raye. She will be greeting him with open arms saying, “TILLMAN!” He will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but they look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. Sammy was born March 5, 1941 in Burlington, NC, and was the son of the late Clyde Sturdivant and Mary Nell Beason Tillman. He was proceeded in death by his son, Samuel Scott Tillman and his loving wife, Raye Shope Tillman. He attended Central High School and graduated in 1959, the last graduating class. Up until his death, he always kept a close relationship with his old classmates. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country. He has had many professions, but the one he is most known for is being the founder of the Paper Doll Lounge in Charlotte. Here, he always welcomed everyone and never met a stranger. Sammy had many passions, but most notably was his passion for golf. He enjoyed playing golf with several members of his community as well as his family. Later in life, he enjoyed riding along and teaching his family the valuable lessons of golf (Vaseline, not to say he was using it, and keeping it in the fairway). One of his fondest memories playing golf was a hole-in-1 on hole 17 at CMCC witnessed by golf buddies Mark Rauch, Ray McKenney, and Charlie Foy. If he wasn’t playing golf, he was out making new friends at any restaurant he could find asking, “Where are you from?” There always seemed to be a connection. Sammy started every morning talking business with Jason and everyday life with George. He enjoyed winding down his day by sitting in his chair watching Fox News and catching up on his favorite TV shows. Sammy is survived by his son Clyde Brett Tillman and his wife Jenneane; daughter Shani T. Hammond and her husband Bobby; grandchildren: Dr. Brandon S. Hammond and his wife Hollie, Dr. R. Logan Hammond and his wife Sarah, Hudson R. Tillman and Hampton R. Tillman; great grandchildren Beau Hammond, and Jack, Samuel, Ford Hammond and twins on the way; loving cousin Joy Hunt; Jason Allen, who he loved like a son, and many more loving family and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11 a.m. with a funeral service at 12 p.m. The service will be held at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard Charlotte, NC with Reverend Steve Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. Feel free to leave the family your condolences via the Tribute Wall provided.
