Neighbors of Al's for just 11 short years, but enough time to discover what a wonderful person he was. He truly did lend a hand when needed. I will never forget after just moving in, a rodent appeared in my washing machine. In a panic, I called Al. He laughed, helped, and humorously pointed out that his Amy would have just tossed it out herself:).
So thankful to live near this dear human. Sending our love to Jan.

Al was quite simply a wonderful guy who always adored Janice and the rest of his entire family. We knew Al though Janice and and remember him to be a prince of a guy. Always kind, polite and having something intelligent/funny to say. He had energy as well, as we all know he needed it to keep up with Janice. My heart aches for Janice because I know how much she loved him and how much she will miss her partner of 55 years. Please know your entire family is in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Such a beautiful tribute for such a great man.
Jim and I remember so vividly his hilarious pranks..from wearing monocles at a German
Dance Party, to wearing giant bow ties in honor of Jim's tv appearance. Our many New Year eves spent in Blowing Rock, to our many July 4th, marching around our pool, to the beautiful engagement party you gave for
Alex. We could go on and on sharing our precious memories. Uncle Bert, was indeed
a true gentlemen, who left this earth a better place.
Janice, Amy, and family, please accept our deepest sympathy.

I literally only knew Al in passing---at Rock Steady on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I admired his tenacity and humor during the change of classes. And of course, how could I not notice how HANDSOME he was. I will miss seeing him and lovely Janice.

Senora Benzenhoefer, We are so saddened to read about your sweet husband’s recent illness and death. He sounds like an amazing person, and I regret that I did not know him. I do know, however, that it is obvious you two were a fabulous reflection of each other!
I think of you often and would love to see you out walking again. You meant so much to all three Barksdale children: Frances, Brian and Mac, and we are grateful for all you did for them. Frances is working in a small elementary school in Charlottesville, VA, where their son is currently a fifth grader. As part of her work there, she has been a contact person for the Latino students and their families….thanks to the love for Spanish that you instilled in her!! There are eight Barksdale grandchildren, ranging in age from 5 to 18….wish they could all experience your teaching skills.
Lots of love and hugs to you and your family!!
