Susanne Robicsek

Obituary of Susanne Marie Robicsek

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye, but with joy that we celebrate the life of Susanne - a precious daughter, loving sister/sister-in-law, devoted aunt, and loyal friend. She fought a courageous fight against the cancer that unexpectedly took her life too soon. Susanne, beautiful inside and out, was a native of Charlotte (but Hungarian by blood) and never met a stranger. She made fast friends with everyone who crossed her path and served as a touchstone to many people. She maintained her friendships from Eastover Elementary, Charlotte Country Day School, Camp Thunderbird, NC State, and Wake Forest School of Law. While an accomplished, smart, and talented bankruptcy attorney, Susanne was also a tech whiz and an expert at trivia and nightly Jeopardy. She was well known for her mischievous sense of humor. Susanne could tell you countless facts and express her opinion about a wide spectrum of topics from recipes to politics. She loved to scuba dive, travel, ski, and spend time at the beach with those she loved. She was an avid collector of many things, including dogs who needed fostering. She will always be remembered for her unconditional kindness, generosity, and infectious laugh.  She loved music and while she couldn’t carry a tune, she sang with gusto and joy, much as she lived her life. Susanne was always positive and optimistic, ready to help or listen to anyone in need. We will miss her greatly around our family table.

Susanne is survived by her loving and devoted mother Lilly Robicsek, siblings Steven Robicsek (Melissa Vu), John Robicsek (Caroline and children Lilly, Anna, and Heidi), and Frances Furr (Charlie and children James Carlton and Liza), Susanne’s cherished community included extended family in the U.S. & Europe, countless friends, and her beloved dog, Sassy.  Susanne was preceded in death by her father, Francis Robicsek, M.D.  We will always love you “Zsu Zsu.”

The family is especially grateful for the care and love of her steadfast friends. Special gratitude goes to her doctors John Fedor, Jeko Madjarov, and Wanda Robinson.  We also are so very grateful to everyone at Atrium Health - Levine Cancer Institute and all the caregivers who provided outstanding care, compassion, and comfort.

A memorial service is planned at Hankins & Whittington, 1111 East Blvd. on Saturday, January 29 at 1:00 p.m. with a brief visitation to follow.  Seating is limited and masks are required.

The family plans to hold a more inclusive event to celebrate Susanne’s life with her friends and loved ones at a later date. Our shared grief is the sadness for the loss of her in our daily lives and the love that we will always have for her.
