May God bless Doug Youngblood forevermore.
For 9 years I grew up in at Boys Town, which was located outside of Pineville, NC on Audrey Kell Rd. I had two older brothers who spent 10 years at Boys Town. I came to know Doug and his brother Quay during that time. He and his brother would come down on Sunday Evenings around 5:30pm and do a Chapel with the boys. My brothers and I looked forward to this time every Sunday evening because afterwards Doug and Quay would open the gym for all of us to play basketball. I was in Middle School then and continued to spend time with Doug and Quay through high school and college. I remember many times Doug shared his heart with us and his love was always evident through his actions. What a Godly example he and Quay were to us and all of the young people that came to know them. My brothers and I played football and basketball throughout middle and high school. Doug and Quay were definitely our loudest cheerleaders. Doug took me to several Chapel Hill football games. What an awesome treat it was for me to ride and tell him about my dreams. During my senior year in high school, I got injured in the 3rd game of the season which ended my high school football career. Doug still believed in me and continue to pray for my future which was all I needed to get to the next level. I went to Mars Hill Univ and walked on and evidently earned a football scholarship. Doug was there for me, coming to my college football games. After college, he even allowed me to stay at his house until I found a job. Eventually, I went to work at Boys Town as a Cottage Parent, giving back to those in need and being an example like Doug and Quay had always been to us. Doug got to see me get married and he got the chance to love on my two boys. Also, he shared in my excitement of being inducted into the Mars Hill Football Hall Fame in 2015. As I look back over my life's journey, Doug was always there for me. Now, it's my time to "Love Everybody" like Doug demonstrated throughout his life, so I can stand before God to hear Him say well done my good and faithful servant.
I will see you again my friend. I love you,
Dale Similton
