Obituary of Helen Louise Johnson

Helen Louise Johnson, 93, passed away quietly on September 2, 2021 in Charlotte NC where she had been residing since March 2020. She was born on August 21, 1928, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late John and Louise Foettinger, who had immigrated from Germany. An avid gardener, her ‘green thumb’ grew everything from tropical orchids to kitchen carrot tops. She loved the outdoors and took frequent walks with family at her favorite parks. She also had an artistic bent for arts and crafts and an enduring love of listening to music, especially jazz trumpet. Most of all she loved spending time with her growing family. Helen is survived by: Sisters: Riki Creek of Columbus, OH; Linda Kaufman of Charlotte, NC; Children: Dan Johnson (wife, Jan) of Charlotte NC; Kathe Link (husband, Ray) of Powell, OH; John Johnson of Columbus, OH; Granddaughters: Shelley Newpher (husband, Tom) of Hillsborough, NC; Robyn Singerman (husband, Josh) of Cincinnati, OH; Kim Rutherford (husband, Will) of Greenville, SC; Great-grandchildren: Gracyn Valerio Seve Valerio Emma Newpher Great-grandchildren acquired through love: Ryan Newpher Caitlyn Singerman Sydney Singerman Jocelyn Singerman Nieces: Cindy Reid (husband, Brian) Heidi Kaufman Crissy Lloyd (husband, Kirk) Nephew: Tom Creek (wife, Karen) Grand-niece: Rachel Marullo (husband, Todd) Great-great nephews: Tommy Marullo Vinny Marullo The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the loving care provided by the health care team of Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, especially to LaToya Daniels. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region. A Celebration of Life with immediate family only will be held in early October of 2021. ###
