Obituary of Joan Bishop

Joan Bishop went home to be with the Lord while she was sleeping on the morning of September 5th. Joan was born in Shelby, North Carolina in 1935 and grew up in Chester, South Carolina. After meeting her future husband Russell at a local square dance, they dated and were married in 1956. Joan and Russell moved around in the Carolinas and Georgia with Russell’s job, and ultimately moved to Charlotte where they began their family. Joan was a founding member of East Baptist Church in Charlotte and in later years, Joan and Russell followed their girls to Carmel Baptist Church. While at East Baptist, Joan served by teaching Sunday School, GA’s, and working in the kitchen for Bible School! Joan loved the love the Lord Jesus with all her heart. She loved spending time reading her Bible and was often found singing hymns! Over the years, Joan was actively involved in her daughters’ school PTA, supporting her grandsons’ sports events, and loving her “puppies”. Joan worked at System Service and Ambassador Personnel in Charlotte and then retired in 1994 when her first grandchild was born. Joan was a very active member of the Brace [Siskey] YMCA for many years, where she enjoyed daily workouts and her morning coffee group. She also loved attending Carolina Panthers football games and visiting with her wonderful neighbors. The Ivey had become her second family over the past few years. Joan always enjoyed her time there, and their wonderful staff. She is survived by her daughters, Kim Rose and her husband Gene, Leigh Bishop, and her grandsons Layton and Grayson Rose. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell in 2002, her parents, Dietz and Marcel Gantt, and her brother, Bill Gantt.
