Obituary of Ann Willis

Mrs. Ann Webb Willis, 96, passed away quietly on August 19, 2021. Born July 3, 1925, in Columbia, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James C. and Annie Stokes Webb. As a long time member of Dilworth United Methodist Church, her voice could be heard singing in the choir on Sunday mornings. Ann was also a member of the Charlotte Choral Society, best remembered as part of the “Singing Christmas Tree.” An avid gardener, roses were her specialty, along with lilies and an annual vegetable garden. Ann was also an excellent seamstress. She loved sewing for her family and she was a member of the “Sew n’ Sews” at church. They made items for the church’s annual fall festival as well as hospitals and nursing facilities. One of the most enjoyable jobs she ever had was that of a teacher’s aide at Dilworth and Beverly Woods Elementary Schools. Working with young children brought her great joy. Ann is survived by her brother, Dr. J.C. Webb, of Deadwood, OR; her children: Alison Walls of Greensboro, NC, Derryl “Rusty” Willis and his wife, Marion, of Ft. Collins, CO, and Robin L. Willis of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren; one great grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Derryl O. Willis and sister, Jean Williams of Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte: hpccr.org. A Celebration of Life will tentatively be held near the end of September or early October of 2021. Please check back for further information.
