Obituary of Joseph Glen Leonard

Joe, 87, of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021. Born Tuesday, February 20, 1934 in Kannapolis, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Melvin Glenn and Hazel Blevins Leonard. Joe had an infectious personality and never met a stranger; he brought his warm and loving personality with him into every conversation he had. He retired from Carolinas Medical Center after 45 years in hospital administration. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, indulging in mystery, suspense, and western novels, watching Hallmark movies with his wife, and a good bowl of ice cream.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Carol Sue Baucom Leonard; children: Elizabeth Carol Franco and her husband, Oscar, Steven Glen Leonard and his wife, Desiree, and Tonya Leonard Lee; grandchildren: Sebastian Alexander Franco and his wife, Amber, Dominique Noel Leonard, Erin Janelle Leonard, Maegan Lee Mitchell, her husband Clay and their children: Kayleigh and Mackenzie, and Lauren Michelle Lee; siblings: Yvonne Hinson and David Leonard and his wife, Linda; and many more loving family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his siblings: Kenneth Leonard, Mary Watson and Helen Williams and great-granddaughter Riley Grace Mitchell.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday July 19th at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 20th in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington with Chaplain David Carl officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 20th at Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery, Polkton, North Carolina. Chaplain David Carl and Reverend Billy Hill will officiate.
