Obituary of Katharine W. Spencer

Charlotte, North Carolina - Katharine Spencer, 83, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021 after a heroic struggle with dementia. She leaves behind husband of 43 years, Joe Spencer, brothers Mike and Greg Whiteside and sister Sandy Whiteside Garner.
The daughter of an Air Force pilot, Sam Whiteside, Kathy was accomplished and well-traveled. Kathy attended Duke University where she sang in the chapel choir. Her career began as a dress model in New York before moving to Greenville, SC to become a buyer for Ivey's before becoming Sales VP for Wrangler Ranch stores, opening stores throughout the southeast. She was a real estate sales agent, rising to Sales Manager for Moffat Sherrod and Cottingham-Chalk.


Kathy was a valued member of various organizations, including Charlotte Sales and Marketing Association, Civitan International and Big Brother, Big Sisters. She was the first female president of Downtown Rotary Club. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Myers Park Baptist Church and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte.


Memorial and graveside services will be held on June 26, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Calvary Episcopal Church, 2840 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher, NC 28732.
