Obituary of Mary Simpson Courtney

Mary Simpson Courtney, 95, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away April 7, 2021. Born May 16, 1925, in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Green Simpson and Mary Elizabeth McClure Simpson.

Mary graduated from Central High School.  She worked for American Trust Bank, then later worked with her husband, T.C. Courtney at his business Radio, TV, and Appliance Company, Charlotte.  Mary enjoyed assisting her husband with his photography and working with the Woodlawn Baptist Church Senior Adult Group.  Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend to many.

Mary is survived by her daughters: Teresa "Terri" Harkins and her husband, Bill, of Charlotte, NC and Kathy Watson and her husband, Tim of Winter Park,  FL; her granddaughters: Lea Harkins and Erika DeBonis and her husband Nick,  Courtney Watson Knopick and her husband, John, and Kayla Watson; her five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many more loving family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. T.C. Courtney, her brothers, William "Buddy", Allen, Wallace "Geta"; her sisters, Clara, Annie, Edna and Rey.

A graveside service will be held privately Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, NC.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Woodlawn Baptist Church date to be determined. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Woodlawn Baptist Church or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region.
