Obituary of Peggy Britt

Peggy Godfrey Britt, 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021. Born Friday, October 2, 1936, in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Johnson "Kelly" and Marzie Baker Godfrey. Peggy spent the majority of her years in the Sharon community where she grew up. She was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church and went to church every Sunday until she could no longer see to drive. Peggy was a devoted and loving wife, aunt, and friend. Peggy retired from General Electric where she met her dear, life-long friend, Nita. She had a great eye for decorating and bought and sold antiques with her husband, “Britt”. Peggy enjoyed being social, loved to laugh, and had an infectious smile. She lived her final years at Sharon Towers where she made friends with residents and staff alike.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Britt; younger brother, Jimmy Godfrey; and niece, Susan Lail.

Peggy is survived by her sister, Dot Shuman, of Charlotte; brother, Gilbert Godfrey, of Florida; great niece and caretaker, Jackie Butcher and her husband, Jonah; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends dear to her heart.

The family will receive friends at 2:00PM with a service to be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service with Pastor Ron Nelson officiating. Interment will be held at Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
