Obituary of Roy McDowell Hester

Roy McDowell Hester, 85, of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Born Monday, November 25, 1935 in Mooresville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Fred Theodore Hester and Viola Melton Williams. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. In 1954 Roy enlisted into the United States Army where he served his country until being honorably discharged in 1962. Roy made his career of 40+ years with Unocal Oil Company where he retired as a sales manager for the South East area.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Norma Steed Hester; sons, Stanley Teed Hester and Scott McDowell Hester and his wife, Cathy McMillan Hester, all of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Matthew Charles (Hester) Novo and his wife, Elizabeth Knight Novo, of Athens, GA and many more loving family and friends.

Roy was an active member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and immensely active with Troop 33 with his two sons.  He worked as a committee member for years and then Assistant Scout Master.  He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and was awarded the distinguished Silver Beaver award by the National Court of Honor.

Roy enjoyed adventures with family and friends like driving cross country, spending time at the beach and exploring new places like Alaska, Maine and Yosemite National Park.
