Obituary of Wayne Larue Blalock

Wayne L. Blalock made his entrance into heaven on Sunday January 24, 2021. He passed peacefully at home at the age of 77.

He is survived by his wife Peggy; children, Derek (Brenda) Blalock, Dana Stikeleather; grandchildren, Peyton Stikeleather and Sophia Blalock; step-grandchildren  James (Lo) Ellington, Jake (Karissa) Ellington, and Jason Ellington; sisters Caroline Hedman and Lois Harward and sisters-in-law Alice Fay Blalock and Ricky Blalock. Additionally, he is survived by sisters-in-law Shelia Ingram and Elaine Smith, and brother-in-law Ivey Smith Jr. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents T.A. and Inez Lowder Blalock; his brothers Carlton, Bobby, and Doyle Blalock; sister-in-law Faye Blalock; and brothers-in-law Butch Harward and Jack Hedman. He was also preceded by parents-in-law Ivey and Doris Smith and brother-in-law Harold Ingram.

He was born on July 27, 1943 in Norwood, NC to T.A. and Inez Blalock. Wayne graduated from Norwood High School in 1961. He married Peggy Smith Blalock, the love of his life, on December 19, 1965. In December of 2020 they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Wayne began his career at Young Manufacturing learning the trade of furniture making. He then worked for Sears Service for 39 years in various capacities before retiring as Routing Manager. After retirement, he worked part-time for Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home.

Anyone who knew Wayne knew that he was a Godly man, a role model, and was very active in his church, HOPE Community Church of Metrolina. He was also a fantastic husband, daddy, granddaddy, and loyal friend. He loved to spend time in his garden. If you played sports for him, you know how much he enjoyed coaching young and old alike in football, basketball, baseball, and softball. He was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 28th from 1:00pm-3:00pm followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm at HOPE Community Church of Metrolina at 3205 Sam Wilson Rd., Charlotte, NC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Wayne’s life.
