Frank Chance

Obituary of Frank Chance

Frank Chance, 75, died on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in Charlotte, NC.  Frank was born in Mobile, Alabama, to Henry Vaughan Chance and Sylvia Whigham Chance.

Because of his father’s Navy assignments Frank attended many schools in many places, graduating from Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida.

Frank graduated from University of South Florida in 1970. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He worked as store manager, then as regional manager for B. Dalton Booksellers in Charlotte and Cincinnati. From 1981 to 1984, he was co-owner of the Charlotte independent bookstore, Horizon Books.  After receiving a Masters in Library Science at UNCG, he worked as director of the library at Pfeiffer University’s Charlotte campus. Frank will be remembered as a supportive colleague and instructor and for his wonderful sense of humor.

Born with a love of numbers, he found pleasure in discovering the many number patterns both in everyday life and in sports.  He was a lifelong fan and loved to talk sports with his friends.

Frank is survived by his wife, Flora, son Alexander and his wife Cindy Beck, and grandson Coltrane Beck-Chance.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Roy Chance.
