Obituary of Elizabeth Faye Whitesides

Elizabeth Faye Whitesides (Libby) was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 30, 1961.  Her parents were Dr. William Carl and Virginia Whitesides.  Libby was the youngest of six children.  She died on December 2, 2020 after a long illness.

Libby graduated from Myers Park High School in 1979 and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983 with a journalism degree.  She was a member of the Kappa, Kappa Gamma sorority.  After college, Libby moved to Atlanta where she worked for a communications company.  She moved back to Charlotte where she earned a nursing degree and worked as a postpartum nurse at Carolina Medical Center.  Due to a decline in Libbby’s health, she was forced into early retirement.

Libby was diagnosed with lupus in her 20’s and suffered other diseases.  She was a fighter and fought for her health until she could not fight any more.

Libby was intelligent, witty, spirited and strong.  She was inquisitive and continued to learn for as long as she could.  Libby loved to spend time with friends and family.  She was a blueblood-her blood ran Carolina blue and adored Dean Smith, Roy Williams and Carolina Men’s basketball.  Libby enjoyed all sports including going to the Masters golf tournament for decades.  She was lifelong Presbyterian and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. 

Libby was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Virginia Whitesides.  She is survived by William Carl (Terch) and Trisha Whitesides, Casey and Elaine Whitesides Henderson, Joe and Anne Whitesides Washam, Margaret Whitesides and Pam Whitesides.  Libby had four nieces and two nephews and two grand nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte at 2:00 on Monday, December 7 that will be livestreamed.  The family requests no flowers yet donations can be made to the Lupus Foundation or the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
