Obituary of William Donald Smith, Sr.

William Donald "Donnie" Smith, Sr. passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020. Born November 15, 1933 in Charlotte he was the son of the late J. Clyde and Emma Baker Smith. Donnie served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War. He followed his passion and made his career in the photographic field retiring from Fuji Photo Film, U.S.A. In addition to photography, Donnie was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his many friends. He was a loyal member of Calvary U.M.C. and was a 32nd Degree Mason at Steele Creek Masonic Lodge #737 and Oasis Shrine. 

Donnie is survived by his son, Joey Smith; daughters, Kelly Donahue and her husband, Dan, and Sherry Wright; sons by a previous marriage, Michael S. Smith and Jeffrey L. Smith; brother, C. Ray Smith and his wife, Marsha; Grandchildren, Hayes, Cooper and Montana Donahue, Carson Thomas and many more loving family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his wife, Betty E. Smith and his son, William D. "Chip" Smith, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at Sharon Memorial Park.
