Marlis and I met at Dillard’s department store in 2006 where we both worked. My husband and I (newly weds) had just relocated to Charlotte from Florida and Marlis and I became friends. After I moved on from Dillard’s we kept in touch over the years. She attended my baby shower for my first child, and always had good advise. We exchanged Christmas cards every year (I really look forward to her card every year). We would meet at Village Tavern(her favorite place for lunch) from time to time to catch up with each other. Marlis was my first real friend I made in Charlotte and I will miss her very much. Rest In Heaven Marlis.

I knew Marlis Welsh as one of the best saleswoman ever in the elite ladies Bridge Department at Dillard's SouthPark. Marlis was feisty, vivacious, energetic and hard working-- doing so well past normal retirement age because she had an artistic eye directed toward women's high-end designer clothing. She loved helping women to always put their best foot forward and was an outstanding saleswoman who always remembered my name, my favored designers and took such good care of me when I was in the store. I have three or four pieces of clothing in my closet still today because of Marlis' persuasive influence. she was a treasure at Dillard's and I know how much she treasured her beloved husband through our chats. My deepest condolences go out to you and your family at this time Bob for your loss. Marlis was special.

Bright and beautiful. A lively woman full of grace, kindness, creativity and talent. Marlis was a sheltering tree of knowledge who could talk as well as listen intelligently about almost any topic - music, politics, literature and religion to name just a few. We will miss our lunches and long talks. We will always remember her lovely open smile and her generous open heart.
God bless and tend our sheltering tree, our friend and confidant.
A loving remembrance from daughter-in-law Toni Welsh and grandson Max

That being said - Bob - what a gem of a guy you are - a wonderful father, a tolerant, kind, loving husband who loved to downhill ski - you and Marlis lived live "on the edge" - never saying "no I can't do it", it was more like a "what the heck, why not?" - which explains why Oshkosh, WI was overwhelmed by your daughter, Katherine Nelson who came in like a sunami of positive energy, and left like a lamb.

I had the honor of meeting Marlis and Bob when they came to oshkosh wi to visit their talented and beautiful daughter Katherine Nelson. I recall stories of downhill skiing , social events and card playing. I’m so glad she had a long life and Katherine was there for bob and Marlis to help in anyway. Parents could not ask for a more dedicated (yet opinionated) daughter!! Love and sympathy to you all. Lorrie heinemann and family, madison wi

I only met Marlis later in her life and knew her as an avid and very capable bridge player, who was especially fond of the MP Tuesday bridge group and particularly the Christmas parties for that group. Our condolences and love to you, Bob, as you navigate this world without her bright smile and sharp wit. Marlis will live on with affection in those who knew her! Bob and gloria

I'll always remember Mr. and Mrs. Welsh, when we lived in Tuckaway Park near Carmel Country Club. I always thought she was as beautiful as a movie star. They were such nice people and neighbors. They old neighborhood has changed quite a bit since we lived there. Some of our homes aren't even there anymore. But, oh what wonderful memories - every time I drive around the "circle". It was a special place to live. God bless you and all your familyl.
Sincerely,
Susan Shaw Hudson (daughter of Bob and Wilma Shaw)

Dear Mr. Welsh,
Please accept my deepest sympathies in the death of Marlis. My late mother, Edythe Sweet, was her friend for so many years. Marlis and mother sold real estate together and my mother thought so very highly of her friend, Marlis. I can well remember after their real estate years, mother would always ask Marlis her opinion before making any expensive clothing purchase. I pray that God will keep you and yours in the palm of His hand. Much love and deepest sympathies, Julie Sweet Rayner
