Obituary of Mary Jane Schwandt

Mary Jane Leiby Schwandt, 91, of Charlotte, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 9, 2020. Born November 28, 1928, in Port Carbon, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Paul Joseph Leiby and Mrs. B. Delia Margaret O'Neill. Mary Jane was a devoted Christian, loving mother and wife. She enjoyed working in the Calvary Church Nursery and had a heart for spreading the Gospel through the Gideons Ministry where she distributed Bibles for many years.

Mary Jane is survived by her loving children, Charles "Chuck" Schwandt, Beverly Skidmore and her husband, Dale, and Peggy Esher and her husband, Dick; three grandchildren: Chad Esher, Nicole Zook and Janel Esher; eight great grandchildren; and many more loving family and friends

In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Howard W. Schwandt; brother, Joe Leiby and half brother, David Smith.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral ceremony to follow at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2020 at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Esher officiating. Interment will be held at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery at Calvary Church.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the hospice care team: Chanaya, Jackie, Tinara, Britt and additional staff who provided wonderful care to their mother. Words can't thank them enough for all of their love and support.
