Obituary of Harriet Underwood

Harriet Campbell Underwood, 92, passed away October 6, 2018.  She was born February 2, 1926 in Mecklenburg County, the daughter of the late Sadie Cathey and Ted Campbell.  She was a graduate of Paw Creek High School and a retiree of the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System.  Harriet was a lifelong member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church where she was involved in many church activities.  During her later years, she also enjoyed attending University City United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 72 years, Ralph Underwood.  She is also survived by her son Sid Underwood and wife Linda of Blacksburg, VA, daughter Karen Gamble and husband Charles of Raleigh, NC and son Andy Underwood of Anchorage AK.  She is also survived by three much loved granddaughters, Lauren Gamble Woodruff and husband Quinn, Katie Gamble and Claire Underwood, all of whom brought her lots of joy.  In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by her sister Willene Campbell Camp and husband Elmore.

 

Harriet was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose positive attitude, good-natured sense of humor and constant warm smile will be missed by all.

 

A memorial service will be held at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 12:00 PM with the Reverend Elliott Hipp officiating.  Visitation with family and friends will take place in the church parlor immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 64, Paw Creek, NC  28130.
