Obituary of Thelma F. Wand

 

IN REMEMBRANCE

 

February 19, 1922 – September 28, 2018

 

Thelma Wand (née Fenster) of Charlotte, NC since 2000 (formerly of Aventura, FL) aged 96 died on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Charlotte Square. Mrs. Wand was born in Akron, OH to the late Himen and Rebecca Fenster. She and her family moved to Newark, NJ when she was four years old. Thelma attended Weequahic High School, graduating in 1939. She then earned a Bachelor's degree in business education from Montclair State Teachers College in 1943.

 

Thelma was benefits adjudicator for the War Department during World War II. After World War II she married her high school sweetheart. She raised three children mostly on her own as she was widowed when she was 39.

 

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Philip Wand, her siblings Hannah Weiss, Ernest Fenster and Flora Schuman, and her son Eric.

 

Thelma enjoyed traveling. She toured most of Western Europe, Scandinavia, Israel, Hong Kong and China. She also enjoyed cruising. In addition, she attended the ballet, opera and theatre. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and a longtime member of Oasis Senior Group at the JCC and Temple Beth El.

 

She is survived by her son Bruce (Nancy) of Lafayette, CA, daughter Debra Ferry (Michael) of Charlotte and grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

 

A Graveside service will be held 10:30 AM Sunday, September 30, 2018 at The Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Ave., Charlotte, NC  28208.  A reception will follow the service at Temple Beth El, 5101 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC  28226.
