Obituary of Helen Rose Hall

Helen Rose (Grindel) Hall, 91, left us to be with the Lord on July 6, 2018. Helen was most recently being cared for by the angelic staff at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, NC, but Helen had a permanent residence in South Charlotte for over 60 years.

Helen was born August 4, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Helen grew up on the North Side, Troy Hill, and then moved to Charlotte with her husband, William “Bill” Hall, and first son Kenneth Hall, in 1950. Bill and Helen raised Ken, and two other sons, Steven and John, in South Charlotte.Helen was the perfect mother, always putting the needs of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren ahead of her own needs. Helen was an avid volunteer. She volunteered at the Red Cross, a Charlotte homeless shelter, St. Ann Catholic Church, the old Mercy hospital, and area charities. Helen enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. Helen was a good Bridge player, but played many other card games, including “66”. Helen enjoyed gardening or as she called it, “working in the yard”. As is a tradition with the Grindel clan of Pennsylvania, Helen was a hard worker and a devout Roman Catholic.

In Helen’s early years, she attended Most Holy Name Catholic Church in Troy Hill, Pittsburgh, Pa. After moving to Charlotte with Bill, Helen attended St Ann Church in Charlotte, for over 65 years. Most recently Helen enjoyed going to the NC Mountains with her oldest son and family, and enjoyed spending a lot of time with all her extended family and friends.

Helen is preceded in death by her beloved husband William “Bill” Hall, her parents Joseph and Emma Grindel of Troy Hill, Pittsburgh, Pa, and two brothers (George and Bill Grindel) and three sisters (Marie Brueckner, Ann Toia, and Retta Beall) from Pittsburgh, Pa.

Helen is survived by brothers: Joseph Grindel of Pittsburgh, Pa, Richard Grindel of Arizona, Robert Grindel of Seattle, Washington; sisters: Dolores Alexander, Betty Theberge, and Louise Peaco, all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; her three sons and their wives: Kenneth and Brenda Hall of Charlotte, John and Judith Hall of Charlotte, Steven and Beverly Hall of Clayton; grandchildren and their spouses: Jim and Lisa Beard of Fort Mill, SC, Tim and Alisa Conner of Gastonia, Richard and Catherine Beard of Lake Wylie, SC, Andrew and Shauna Hall of Columbia, SC, Michael and Melanie Hall of Belmont; great grandchildren: Henry Conner of Gastonia, Daylan and Amanda Beard of Fort Mill, SC, Dawson, Caitlyn and Cameron Beard of Lake Wylie, SC, Sloane and Arie Hall of Columbia, SC.
