James "Jim" Wicker went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 24. At the age of 89, he was a man who had lived his life to the fullest. Jim served in the military for 8 years as a scientific professional. He ran several manufacturing corporations such as Ellison Corporation and Specialty Manufacturing. He retired at the age of 59 and spent as many years as he could flying his plane. His two greatest loves were his wife, Betty, of 65 years and flying. He also loved animals. Jim gave many stray cats a home and always feeding the neighborhood critters. He didn't have a lot to say unless you got him talking about guns, planes or engineering. The you couldn't stop him. Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Lidia, father, Wesley, two brothers: Dick and Howard, and two sisters: Louise and Becky. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Betty; sisters-in-law: Delores, Pam and Patti; brothers-in-law: Dean and Ronnie; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, aspca.org.
