Martha Nell Cowart Pugmire, 96, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022. Born February 22, 1926, in Birmingham, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late George Curtis Cowart and Mattie Estelle Nix Cowart. She grew up in Roswell, Georgia . Martha met her future husband,Glen, on a blind date shortly before he left to fly B-29’s during WWII. After he returned from the war, they married August 9th in Salt Lake City , Utah. Martha was the quintessential Air Force wife for 32 years until her husband’s retirement. She established her own business , “The Country Hutch”, in Maggie Valley, N.C.., that she ran for 15 years. Martha was known for her competitive nature and excelled in playing Bridge and Golf. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Martha is survived by her loving children: Debbie Ferguson and her husband, Larry, of Charlotte, and Greg Pugmire and his wife, Becky, of Sapulpa, OK; grandchildren: Angela D. Pugmire and Jeff Parker, of Gaitherberg, Maryland: Amber D. Schnapp and Tony, of Flower Mound, Texas: Scott P. Ferguson and Lisa, of Charlotte, and Mark D. Ferguson and Morgan of Mooresville N.C. Great grandchildren: Logan N. Schnapp, Lainey M. Schnapp, Jack P. Ferguson and Ryan D. Ferguson; nieces: Gwen Martin and Tyra Vasche; nephew, Stanley Coleman; and many more loving family and friends. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Glen Leonard Pugmire, USAF, Retired and son, Terry Glen Pugmire.
