He was born on January 7, 1951 in Statesville, NC to Margaret Christy Cook and Ross Wilson Cook and grew up in Amity Hill, NC. Charles Cook graduated from South Iredell High School in 1968, attended Catawba Valley Community College from 1968-1970, and graduated from UNC Charlotte in 1973.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen Machen Cook of Charlotte, NC and two children, Ava Marell Paullins and husband Austin William Paullins of Mooresville, NC and Andrew Ross Cook of Maryville, TN. His surviving family includes his mother of 102 years, Margaret Christy Cook, one sister, Shirley Cook Heintz, one brother, Ronald Ross Cook, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
