Obituary of Albert Russell Krantz

Albert Russell Krantz, Jr., 87, of Charlotte, passed away on November 13, 2017 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. A native of Mahoning, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Albert Russell Krantz, Sr. and Dorothy Mary Howell Krantz. In addition to his birth mother, he was preceded in death by his 'other Mother', Dorothy Bradley Krantz; by a sister, Dorothy Averill and by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Krantz. Mr. Krantz served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954, during the Korean War. As a young man, he carried the Hartford Current, earning the distinction of "Newsboy of the Year". He also was a survivor of Polio, a Concert Pianist for the Hartford Symphony and sang with the Charlotte Opera Chorus for 12 years. After his retirement as a Computer Instructor, he worked for Food Lion on a part-time basis for 10 years. He is remembered for camping nearly every weekend with his kids and family throughout Canada and the United States. Mr. Krantz is survived by his partner of 11 years, Christian Schneider of Germany, with whom he loved to travel and see the world. He is also survived by his sons, the Rev. Jeff Krantz (Sara) of Oak Island, NC; Tim Krantz (Audrey McConnell) of Charlotte; John Krantz (Margaret) of Hanover, Indiana and Stephen Krantz (Amy) of Chesapeake, Virginia; by a daughter, Janet Krantz (Cathy) of Canada, by 11 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren; by his sister, Janet Criswell of San Diego, CA and special friends, Ellen and Jurgaen Schneider of Germany and Martin and Nico of Germany. A memorial service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, located at 8601 Bryant Farms Road in Charlotte. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Inurnment will be private at a later date.
