Obituary of Hiwathia Mae Neal Haigler Glover

IN REMEMBRANCE July 8, 1922 - November 24, 2017 Hiwatha Haigler Glover of Cary, NC (formally of Charlotte, NC) passed away from complications due to Alzheimer's disease on Friday, November 24, 2017 in Cary, NC. Billie, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Concord, NC on July 8, 1922 to Curtis Haigler and Verler Williams Haigler. She grew up in Belmont, NC with 8 brothers and sisters during the depression. She had to leave school in the 7th grade to help the family by taking care of her younger siblings so both of her parents could work. She was very proud when she earned her high school degree many years later at the age of 65. Billie married Shuford Glover (Pud) on February 2, 1946 shortly after he returned from fighting in World War II. Billie worked in retail sales and as a bookkeeper until she had her only son, Bobby, in 1955. For many years she concentrated on raising him and taking care of her family. Family was the most important thing in her life. She loved children and took care of multiple generations of nieces and nephews over the years. She was a giving, caring soul who helped her family whenever there was any need. Her favorite hobbies were playing Scrabble and eating ice cream. If you were at her house long enough, you would be talked into playing a round while eating ice cream with her. She also enjoyed music from the forties and fifties, dancing and making desserts, especially cakes and pies. She is predeceased by her husband, Shuford Glover and 7 siblings, Mary Burch, Cecil Ritch, Frankie Anthony, Ramona Earnie, Earl Haigler, Nick Haigler and Al Haigler She is survived by her only child, Bobby Glover and his wife, Dawn and 3 grandchildren, Joshua Glover, Jason Glover, and Megan Glover and her sister, Shirley Stewart and 19 nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend her visitation and funeral. The visitation is on Thursday November 30, 2017 at 5:00 PM to 7:00PM at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC. The funeral service will be on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Covenant United Methodist Church, 6824 Tuckaseegee Road, Charlotte, NC 28214, followed by internment at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208. Contributions in her memory can be made to Covenant United Methodist Church, or any hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice.
