Obituary of Steve Sowell Welsh

Steve Welsh, Jr., age 60, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away at his home, due to a heart attack, on Thursday, December 21, 2017. He was the beloved son of the late Frances and Steve Welsh. Steve was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina where he attended Myers Park High School and Central Piedmont Community College. At the time of his death he was employed at Harris Teeter Super Markets. Previously, he was a longtime employee of the Charlotte Observer and also operated his own lawn care business. He was greatly admired and appreciated by his customers. Residing at the same residence as his parents, Steve was a devoted caregiver for both his mother and father. He was a man of generous spirit and will be especially remembered by his nieces and nephews for the creative and fun gifts that he gave every Christmas-for many years. He enjoyed tennis, going to the beach, reading, especially science fiction. He was an accomplished guitarist and a lover of animals. Steve was loving and kind with good intentions and valued his longtime friends. He was quiet with a dry sense of humor, and was conscientious in his work ethic. As a single parent of a special needs child, he made sure his son was provided for in a safe and loving environment. Steve is survived by his son, Matthew Welsh, three sisters, Sandra Newnan (Bill), Caroll Daggett (Ben), Kay Allen (Jud), 4 nieces, 3 nephews, and multiple cousins. His cousin, Barry Cox, was like a brother to him. A memorial service for Steve will be held at 3:00p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 in the Milford Chapel at Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28209. Inurnment is Private.
